Complementary Medicine, not Complimentary Medicine
Seems like lots of people, including regular mainstream doctors, are jumping on the bandwagon with Complementary and Alternative Medicine - otherwise known as CAM and CAM Therapies. These are things like massage, energy work, herbs and essential oils, meditation, yoga, etc.
This emerging area of health care is market driven. People want this in their approach to their health care, and they would love to access this through their doctors. But many doctors don’t know about these therapies.  They hear about them through their patients.ÂÂ
Because CAM therapies are market driven, marketing-minded physicians are starting to introduce them in their practices. However, it’s difficult for many doctors because they don’t always bring in that much revenue, and insurances don’t pay for them at this point.
I read this press release this morning and was impressed that this cardiologist is announcing the CAM therapies he is offering his patients. But the way this was worded informed me that either he, or the person putting the report together, doesn’t have a clue about these - because if they did they would have used the correct spelling. This tells me that someone has not done their homework and I interpret this as merely a physicians practice trying to jump on the bandwagon in offering these therapies.
Well, you might say - it doesn’t matter, the work is being offered anyway, its what people want and thats the important thing. But still it irks me that they can’t get the basic spelling and meaning of the word correctly as to what they are offering. Complementary with the e is the correct way to spell it. It means these therapies are to ’complement’ the care that is being given. Complimentary means that it is offered without charge.
Okay, that is my rant for today.
