Beat Cell-u-lite: "Light Up Your Cells"

By Marilee Tolen RN, HNC

Cellulite: the age old beauty challenge.

Especially in the warmer weather when we show more of our flesh.
We would like not to show any cottage-cheesy appearances of our body but it somehow seems to come with womanhood, especially in those 'approaching menopause years".

Must we give in to this female issue? Are we really that powerless in our fight to be tight?

No. No.

Here are a few tips we can do for ourselves short of having lipo:

  1. Light up our cells.
This might sound like a "new-age" type of tip, but its really not. "Light" is important for every cell in the body. Light in this context is about vibration as opposed to visual light (although that is “vibrational” too).

Increasing vibration to a hardened fat cell that has become joined with others like itself can be very effective in transforming cellulite into healthier, prettier cells.

Examples of ways to increase vibration to areas of cellulite are energy-based techniques (which you can do for yourself if you have been trained - or even if you are just inspired and intuitive) such as:
    • Reiki
    • Healing Touch
    • Acupressure
    • Acupuncture
    • Light Therapy (with colored filters/lens)
    • High Frequency Essential Oils

These techniques are examples of ways to bring more "vital force, vitality, chi, energy, consciousness" to the stagnant areas in the body.

  2. Massage
Massage is one of the top techniques to use on areas of cellulite. It too brings more vitality and light to the area.
The physical movements used in massage also help to:
    • promote lymphatic circulation which takes the toxins out of the area
    • brings in more of a blood supply which carries oxygen to the area
    • break the encapsulated hardened fat cell that makes up cellulite

We can massage ourselves at home on a daily basis when we are in the bath or shower in the cellulite prone areas, but its always so much nicer to have a massage therapist work on us!

  3. Exercise
    This can't be stressed enough.

Whatever we can do to move our lymph system, we should, and exercise is the best. The lymph vessels are responsible for carrying out many of the toxins. Some toxins don't leave our bodies that easily and like to snuggle together and harden in fat cells, these areas become cellulite.

There is nothing better than exercise to promote lymph movement.
Twenty minutes of aerobic movement three times a week.

By the way, moving our body is the ONLY thing that moves lymph (along with some good deep breathing).

Our lymph system, which is a circulatory system, doesn't have a pump like the blood circulatory system has a heart. So lymph becomes stagnant if we don't move our bodies.
  4. Body Scrubs
Whether it’s dry brushing the skin or doing a salt scrub in your shower, its important to remove the dead cells off of the top layer of the skin.

The skin is an eliminatory organ, and helping to eliminate toxins through the skin helps to prevent buildup of them in other parts of the body.

As we scrub the top layer of the skin to remove dead cells, we are also promoting blood supply to the area (which brings with it nutrients and oxygen) and we are promoting lymph circulation.
  5. Eat Veggies and Fruits
It's the nutrients, the enzymes, the fiber, and water in these types of food. This type of food loves to nourish us, hydrate us, and move right on out of us grabbing the toxins with its fiber.
  6. Proper Elimination
This is critical. If waste doesn't leave our bodies properly the toxins stay in us and hang out in our cells.
  7. Drink Water
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Water helps to move our toxins out. It also helps to moisten our skin so it is smoother and improves our overall appearance.
